huge

wow, bombed already? it's truly sad how people don't make an effort to even listen before they select their vote at times. i was unsure how it would build up, but i was pleased immediately when i heard your neuro bass fade in.

my only complaint would be how repetitive it is. even though you have that transition with a milder reese, nothing major was changed. use some hat change-ups or different snares, man. that's the shit people love.

honestly, impressive stuff. hopefully the full version is a ton better.

v150r responds:

yea, im still working on it. altough the repetativity is an average problem in my tracks, but i put my best into this tune. i got a lot of feedbacks, two of my friends thinked its a mixcut (and not made by me)...
...i think, i dont need a better review of this track. :D
so, i think finally i reached "that" sound, what im looking for over the years, and i need to put my best efforts to make it better.

could be so much better

this could be so much better than it already is. your synth has such a good melody, but your bass has such a plain noise. it really contradicts to everything else. i would suggest stretching it out a bit, making it smoother and adding some low-rate lfo on it

whenever your drop is supposed to be, i suggest using rides or open hats to accent the amen break. it would sound so much better with it, i promise. maybe adding some incredibly low overdrive on those drums could be good as well.

try to remove all that reverb, as well. if you add some background noises, then put reverb on it. your synth especially doesn't need it, and the volume should be a lot higher since it's so important

violent content haha

Melophobik responds:

Thanks man! Especially for all your tips n' what-not.

It's feels like it's been forever since I made this song... My computer broke down a couple days after I finished it, so no revisions could, or have been made.
If I ever do get my computer fixed I will turn this song into something awesome :D
I've learned a few new tricks and I could really fix it up with some tinkering.

dance?

i'm not even sure what genre this is. i won't give dnb-related criticism because of that, but i would definitely suggest moving this to trance, techno, or dance. it doesn't belong here, man

landscapers1 responds:

so wrong genre deserves a 6. hahaha...

more techno

the majority of this remix is just the original requiem melody. your part comes it very close to the end. the drums are a bit random at that. i would understand it's hard to get them going with the original track, but there aren't any real breaks. at least your added melody flows with it, like it should

could be a lot better, man

steelside responds:

This song sucks :( Revelations is better

catchy

i actually love this melody, but i can tell you this isn't drum and bass at all. i would suggest putting it in another category to avoid getting lower scores

td6d responds:

Yeah the little 8-bit dnb part only starts at 0:48 which is almost at half of the song but I don't know what would be a better genre on newgrounds.
Thanks for the kind words and score! :]

decent

for a first, this isn't horrible. i've heard way worse. you actually are using drum and bass elements, unlike most of the people who have top scores for this category with their tracks. i have a lot to say, actually

basic drum and bass song structure has a very progressive introduction, usually 1:00 to 1:30 minutes long. it's followed by your first main section with lots of bass variation and such. then comes your slowdown, which can be similar to your introduction, but should contain some new elements but generally just different progression. finally you would have a second main part, which doesn't require much change from the first; i like to include new snare sounds and minimalistic things. end your track soft, but don't let it carry on too long

as for your drums, try not to use default noises. i'm almost entirely sure you used fl studio for them. learn to blend sounds and use compression. change pitches; combine minimal sounds with harder sounds. i mostly use compression for harder snares, which can make them last longer, or generally make them rougher. try not to use so much reverb on them, either.

everything else is up to you. i can't say much else because it would be opinion, sorry. try to listen to professional drum and bass, all different styles. i hope this helps

nameless11 responds:

thanks for the review...i did indeed use fl samples but i made my OWN beat with them. As for listening to professional dnb...i have that covered, but sounding like spor or high contrast will take years of practice at the least on my part.

chill

your background effects and main melody don't seem to work well together. i really do like the whole chilling atmosphere that goes with this. i feel like i'm in an snowy cave, then it builds up a bit more, making me feel like i'm getting farther and father into some endless tunnel

i'm using headphones, so i can't completely hear if you used some sub or not, but i'd rather prefer something louder and raw. dubstep is mostly about the bass, man

and dubstep normally isn't like this at all. i usually hear plain, wavy basses and loud snares/claps. everyone should be encouraged to try some new things like this. good work

Reignee responds:

there's a pretty clear sub in the song , I wanted to stay away from the raw bass in this one cause it might ruin the chilling effect. I'll give it a try though.
About the background effects, im not entirely sure I think they fit in pretty well

a bit messy

just your noises in general seem a bit random like they don't go too well with each other. the whole introduction in general seems to start with too much too soon. i would try to be more structured with things like that. try some smooth background noises, or minimalistic sounds to lightly accent some things.

your drum beat doesn't flow with your main melody, which is a huge mistake. using an easier, more fluid drum pattern with constant hats, maybe some high-pitched open hats in the background would suit a new beat a lot better once your drop hits

sorry i'm mostly an opinion guy, but for my criticism as well, i feel you should be picky. hope this helps. use it if you wish

Quarl responds:

It's all about random noises. Also, it's minimalistic. You'll love it!

smooth

i'm more of a fan of darker dnb, but the occasional liquid is nice. your melodies are incredibly soothing and you certainly know how to create a calm atmosphere. my problem is combining different melodies and trying to get them to work well with each other; seems like you can do that a hell of a lot better

while i realize this is a work in progress, i'd like to be picky and suggest that you add just a bit more to the introduction. it seems like it stays static for too long. those wind chimes you have at the end would work so well, but i encourage you to use some other minimalistic sounds. i would probably start with lighter, more technical drums. some high pass modulation, maybe, but it's whatever you choose.

in general it's nice. i would love to hear a stronger bass, however, not something weak that i can barely hear. can you do that for me? haha

Jenni-Harry4eva3 responds:

Well I thank you on your compliments of the melodies :3 (Thank you music theory lol) I think I'd be pretty picky as well lol. I know the introduction is missing a bit of spicy variation, and the whole minimal high pass on the drums was an idea that, I think, works pretty nicely. I'll definitely add more though :)

I know the bass is lacking a lot. I'm working on it right now as we speak lol. I can certainly do that for ya. Thanks for the review :)

heavy

lovin that variation. most other professional tracks you'll find here really seem to lack that

gonna check out your other stuff

Rig responds:

Thanks, man!
